The Traps of Progress

Ronald Wright, a novelist, essayist and historian whose bestselling works include Stolen Continents and A Short History of Progress, is the first speaker to be featured in UBC Okanagan's new Distinguished Speaker Series of public lectures.

Wright's presentation in Kelowna next Wednesday evening (7 p.m., Dec. 6) is entitled "The Traps of Progress." He will explore human patterns of triumph and disaster in the past and what lessons they hold for the present and future.

A Scientific Romance, Wright’s first novel, won the 1997 David Higham Prize for Fiction and was chosen a book of the year by the Globe and Mail, the Sunday Times, and the New York Times. His latest book is the novel Henderson’s Spear.
